Adam110 viewsThe original pastel of "The Creation of Adam" was executed for a national competition held in 1974 and sponsored by the Chicago Institute of Art. Bradley J. Parrish, at sixteen years of age, with no money and living only with his mother in a rented apartment began his entry. He worked without a canvas or easel on the kitchen floor, drawing on plain paper with pastels. Mr. Parrish won the competition of 2,000 participants beginning a career that has brought him national acclaim.
In gratitude to God for His artistic talents, Parrish graciously gave 400 lithographs of his original pastel [which no longer exists] to the LCMS in 1989. The synodical office and each district office, seminary, and college of the LCMS received a lithograph with the remainder being given to congregations of Synod on a 'first come, first-served' basis. Each congregation receiving a lithograph agreed to have it appropriately framed as fine religious art and displayed in a public place where it could be viewed by many. Our thanks to members Alexander and Marilyn Howard for purchasing the frame for this beautiful work of religious art. It is located in the Fireside Room near the Church Library.Mar 25, 2007

Luther's Refutation110 views
Printed in Wittenberg in 1521, this framed page is from the first edition of Luther's refutation of Pope Leo X's bull of condemnation. Written in German, it begins with these words: "It is certain that the pope does not have power, nor can he command the church, in articles of faith, neither commandments of morals or good works." The "Refutation" is a gift to the church from Henry and Erika Stelling, July, 1990.Mar 25, 2007
