Reformation Quincentennial
The recorded service celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation concluded a full year of ten special Reformation 500 events at Lutheran Church of Our Savior. The service occurred on Sunday, October 29th, at 10:00 a.m. The children’s choir provided choral preludes to the service, as did the Bosch organ and instrumentalists, followed by the processional of the Crucifix as the congregation sang, “Thy Strong Word Did Cleave the Darkness.” The special order of service was based on Divine Service II of the Lutheran Service Book and included the Adult Choir and a Brass Choir accompanying the pipe organ in leading the congregation in singing Luther’s Reformation hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” The sermon is titled: “Reformation Emancipation” and expounds the Reformation Gospel of John 8, followed by the Prayers of the Church and the Service of the Sacrament of the Altar provided by Christ for His people. (Due to the length of the service, the Recessional Hymn, “The Church’s One Foundation,” is not recorded.)
